Verizon Broadband.

I was working in Columbus, OH, last year, and the
client did not allow non-work-supplied computers
on the network. I did most of my work on my own
laptop (Mac, of course!), but dealt with
corporate mail and calendar and running my
scripts against the database on the company
ThinkPad. It was a real pain in the neck getting
files between the two machines, to say nothing
of any (non-corporate) Web surfing I needed to
do...

I stopped in at the local Verizon store to get a
new case for my cell phone, and made the
"mistake" of glancing at one of their USB
broadband modems. Before I knew it, I had a
two-year broadband contract and a rebate coupon
for the price of the modem, and the guy threw in
the cell phone case for free. Unlimited use is
$65.00 per month.

The software knows about Macs, and just works.
The modem doesn't care that it's not hooked up to
a Windoze box.

What a Godsend!!! I e-mailed stuff back and forth
between the two laptops and got what surfing I
needed doing done at work, and if the satellite
connection at the campground we stayed at
misbehaved, Verizon was there. Got to an airport
that didn't provide free WiFi? Whip out the
broadband. A group of us at work had a study
group; we met at a local restaurant that provided
free WiFi. If we had online study materials and
the WiFi was misbehaving, whip out the broadband.
If the DSL misbehaves at home for longer than I
want to be off-line, as long as the cell phone
tower is with us, the broadband is, too.

Anywhere Verizon has halfway-decent service, the broadband works.

My $.02; YMMV.

Slán,

Mo!
