After many months of waiting and an additional several month delay,
the Leopard is now in the wild.

The prior update, 10.4 Tiger was released on Friday, April 29, 2005,
but it seems like a few weeks ago.

I don't plan to waste space on stuff everyone else is discussing so I
refer you to a really great series of articles on
Leopard, features and history at

road_to_mac_os_x_leopard_quicktime_itunes_and_media_features.html

Read the "Road to Mac OS X Leopard" series.

Many of the rumor sites have not updated but these have, so check
them out for more 10.5 stuff:

To say "Leopard is not a radical change but a nice incremental
change to the OS" is speaking as a Hobbist and
not as a user or learning from recent history.

Here are the top 10 reasons: (Sorry, David Letterman)

1. Now Microsoft has something to copy for their NEXT version of
Windows.
2. Apple learned from Vista, users don't want major change to what
they have learned and know.
3. It isn't necessary to change the interface drastically to make the
user's experience
drastically better. Just focus on the difficult or things that get in
the way.
5. The changes "under the hood" (Apple's term) will make for
substantial benefits for users
going forward. Expect many Application updates to come in a few days
to weeks and expect a number of them
to be 10.5 only.
5. The addition of simple and ubiquitous support of screen sharing
and information sharing does
what a computer should do, allow better communication. Not restrict
it. (Confirm or Deny)
6. Keeping older Applications running while adding new features and
technology. Something else Microsoft has yet to learn.
7. Using and creating open standards and being a complete UNIX peer,
will help make sure that 2007 isn't like 1984,
even if Microsoft has different ideas.
8. Leopard seems to actually be faster. For the machines it is
supported on, Leopard is actually faster then Tiger! as for Vista --
I think not.
9. The collaborative features of Desktop and Server will be a way for
Apple to get through the strangle hold that Microsoft has in some
businesses.
10. This update so far, has been great, albeit just a few hours of
continuous use. I have yet to find an Application that isn't usable,
even older ones like
FileMaker 6, unlike Vista which we found in about 10 minutes.

AN IMPORTANT UPDATE TO THE LAST POST:

One thing is gone. Before you update, make sure you are NOT using
anything that requires Classic.

Classic is finally gone, no support, even on Power PC's
